Shell liable for oil spills in Nigeria

Amsterdam, 1 February 2013 – On 30 January 2013, the district court of The Hague ruled that Shell must pay compensation for damages caused by oil spills in the village Ikot Ada Udo, Nigeria, even if they was caused by sabotage. In two other cases the court held that Shell was not liable. The plaintiffs are represented by lawyer Channa Samkalden.
